Experimentations in writing flash cards for video.

Experimentations in writing flash cards for video.

I have posted a couple commercials that I have done as a departure of the standard talking head video. The two versions vary in length and some format changes. (Yes the music is different)

Why did I post it on a Blog that centers on writing? Well every video production does require some type of writing even if the total script is a note written on a cocktail napkin. In this case. I made this video to fit a situation where people may show up in the middle of the presentation or be distracted from other inputs.

This type of example would for such as in tradeshows or just a busy environment. There is tremendous value in the "talking head" production. However so much of it requires focused attention on that presentation unless other supporting components are there to maintain the connection of all the points presented.

I decided in this example that the "spokesperson" would be the product itself showcased in one area of the screen , with supporting flashcards on the other part of the screen. So I suppose I tried to have YOU be the one reading the teleprompter ! Daring to be different. An additional advantage to this ad is that the person could be viewing the ad on a computer without sound, or the person could not hear at all!

I do ask for the sale. What a concept!

Next time you watch television... Turn off the subtitle feature and the sound. Some commercials do carry well without the sound track.. Others you would not have a clue of what they are trying to sell!
There is a longer story to this commerical than has been posted here. I hope you enjoy this example of the written word.

I would be glad to hear your comments good or bad.

Regards,
Dexter

Additional Information by the Video Editor:
This video overview is an experiment in style. Always a challenge to be different. There are many talking head type ads. This ad goes against the the trend by simply showing you what the product can do along with some text displayed in creative ways. The soundtrack is energetic, but not needed to carry the message. The target market in this ad is for people who can read English. A factor to consider if an ad became international.

There are 34 Bathrooms in the White House and other fun Facts.

There are 34 Bathrooms in the White House and other fun Facts.

I had joked about learning about the world from bubblegum wrappers.

Actually if you study bubble gum packaging; you could learn quite a bit about advertising and communications in such a small space.

I have not chewed bubble gum in years. I found an attractively packaged box of chewing gum by the Dubble Bubble Gum Company http://www.dubblebubble.com/ a few days ago and sprung for the purchase price of $1.20 to relive some old childhood memories. Well it was interesting in that after a couple pieces of gum; I had picked up the impression about knowing the website address to the company. Its not a hard address… But where did I see it printed?

Well I looked all around the outside of the box holding the 25 pieces of gum. There was no mention of a website. It surprised me since, quite a number of food products do mention their websites somewhere in the fine print.

Well after looking around… I found the website address mentioned as a one liner on the tiny 2 inch by 1 inch “Funnies” paper scrap that is used as an inner wrapper. I had picked that piece of information up subconsciously as I looked at the latest adventures of comic Character Pud. ( Pud?)

I think this is an excellent example of passing a message in such a small space.

What about the 34 bathrooms at the White House?

Well that was a factoid shared at the bottom of the comic strip.

May all your writing carry the intended message!
